Brussels - The new headquarters of the European Council, also known as “Van Rompuy’s egg” is to cost the taxpayer at least 327 million euro. This is a third more than was estimated when the plans for the egg-shaped building were approved in 2004.

News - Some thirty cities have shown an interest in accommodating Mini-Europa, the recreation in miniature of famous monuments and buildings from across the continent of Europe. The attraction currently stands at the Heizel, but is set to close at the end of August after the City of Brussels indicated that it was unwilling to extend the concession. The Mini-Europa management faces a choice: selling the monuments to another operator or transferring the infrastructure to a nearby site where employment could be maintained.

News - Britain's Jamiroquai will be the first band to play in the spanking new concert hall in Palace 12 of the Heizel Exhibition Centre in the City of Brussels on 10 July. The new hall can accommodate 15,000 people, though there is only seating for 2,500.

News - Police in the Belgian and Flemish capital staged a Full Integrated Police Action (FIPA) on Friday. Preliminary results reveal that 54 drivers had to hand in their driving licence in Brussels. One motorist was speeding at 148 km/h on a section of road where 50 km/h is permitted.

Brussels - The price that you will pay for a trip in a taxi in the capital is set to rise. From May 1, the price of a taxi journey within the Brussels-Capital Region will go up by 14 eurocents to 1.8 euro per kilometre.
