Fri 27/01/2012 - 13:26 The Federal Prosecutor Johan Demulle has said that the federal judicial authorities have too few specialist detectives to find and prosecute war criminals. According to Federal Prosecutor Delmulle, there are just 8 specialised detectives based in Brussels to investigate a total of 90 cases spread over the whole country.
In practice this means that around two-thirds of cases cannot be investigated.
Some of those that escape investigation are suspected of having committed serious crimes such as murder, torture and rape.
Belgium is bound by international treaties to find and prosecute those guilty of war-crimes that are living here.
