More Belgians on insurers’ black lists

Belga

Wed 01/08/2012 - 14:14 Belgian insurance companies now have 30% more people on their respective black lists than was the case 5 years ago. The figures come from Datassur and were published in Wednesday’s edition of the daily ‘De Standaard’. Motor insurance companies especially are putting a growing number of their customers onto black lists.

René Dhondt of the insurance trade federation Assuralia told the VRT that "The number of those registered on black lists is increasing and within this group the proportion of those black-listed for none payment has shot up."

"Previously most of those black listed were wreckless drivers, whereas now 90% have been blacklisted for non-payment issues.”

Anyone blacklisted can still get insurance. However, they have to pay more than those not on the insurance black list.
