CNN nominates Atomium among "most bizarre buildings"

The American news channel CNN has included the Brussels Atomium in a list of the world's most bizarre European monuments.

CNN viewers can now go to the CNN website and chose their favourite bizarre European monument from the list.

In all eleven monuments are featured: three in Spain, two in France and one each from Belgium, Lithuania, Britain, Poland, Austria and the Czech Republic.

The monuments include Gaudi's Casa Mila in Barcelona, the Nationale-Nederlanden building in Prague and the Krzywy Domek in Sopot in Poland.

The Belgian nominee, the Atomium, was built in 1958 for the World Exhibition in Brussels. In that very year it attracted 700,000 visitors. The Brussels landmark was completely renovated in 2004 and 2005.
