The police issued more than 3 million fines in 2009. Most of the fines were for speeding. There were also a lot of parking fines and fines for not wearing a seatbelt.

Of the more than €344 million collected from the fines some €100 million flowed back to the different police zones. They can use the money to improve the traffic situation and safety in their area.
