The "Prins Filip" is back!

Belga

Mon 08/02/2010 - 17:35 The flagship of the former Oostende Lines, the Prins Filip, is to return to its home port of Ostend. The shipping companies LD Lines and Trans Europa Ferries are joining forces to allow the ferry to operate between Ostend (West Flanders) and the English port of Ramsgate.

The Prins Filip was a state of the art ferry when she entered service between Ostend and Dover in 1992.

The shipping companies hope to attract custom from people travelling on motoring and coach holidays.

Foot passengers will not be welcome just for the minute.

The ship was sold off when Oostende Lines' owners, the state owned RMT shipping company went out of business in 1997.

The ferry is also being renamed the Ostend Spirit.

Harbour President Johan Vande Lanotte told VRT news of his joy at the news: "The use of a bigger ship means that the shipping companies expect more traffic".
