Mice in frozen veg

During the past two years, the European Food Safety Authority has received a total of six reports from Belgians of mice being found in frozen vegetables. The figures come from a report in Thursday’s edition of the daily ‘Het Nieuwsblad'.

The professional association that represents the vegetable processing industry Vegebe recognises the problem.

“Machines are used to remove mice and other objects from the vegetables.”

“However, for some vegetables such as spinach this is difficult”.

“This is because spinach is a leaf vegetable and the mice can go undetected “, Romain Cool of Vegebe told journalists.

Nevertheless, Mr Cool assures consumers that there is no need to panic, as the presence of mice in frozen vegetables doesn’t pose a risk to public health
