RC Genk break the jinx

Belga

Tue 03/11/2009 - 10:26 The Limburg eleven have won their first home match since 21 March. Cercle Brugge lost 2 - 0 to Genk on Monday night.

The win takes Genk to the ninth place in the league. Cercle are still languishing perilously close to the relegation zone.

Following last week's win against Lokeren Genk were determined to pocket top points from their fixture against Cercle.

Cercle got off to a poor start. Pudil helped Ogunjimi to score in the fourth minute. Ogunjimi nearly made the home team's second goal too.

Not satisfied with a 1 - 0 defeat Foley added insult to injury by making an own goal thanks to a header.

Cercle played well in the second half and could have turned the match to its advantage, but Nyoni hit the post and Foley was unable to redeem himself.

Cercle really ended up in the doldrums when Gombami was injured following a contact with Joneleit.

The comment of the VRT newsman at the scene: "The match bled to death."
