Belgian men draw against New Zeeland

Sun 05/08/2012 - 13:42 The Belgian men’s hockey team has drawn the fourth of its five group stage matches at the Olympic Games in London. Despite creating countless chances, the Red Lions only found the back of the net once in their match against New Zealand’s Black Sticks.

The first half saw the Belgians almost constantly in the New Zealanders half. Despite, their dominance the Belgians were unable to score against the team ranked 7th in the world.

The Red Lions’ had no fewer than 11 chances during the first half, but failed to score even against 9 black sticks.

This changed early in the second half Tom Boon scored his second goal of the tournament to put the Red Lions ahead.
Although the Belgians were still dominant, the New Zealanders equalised when Wilson beat the Belgian keeper Vanasch.

The match could have gone either way and New Zealand looked dangerous in front of goal after Boccard’s yellow card.

A New Zeeland penalty corner hit the post in the final minute of the game. The score remained 1-1.

With four points from four games, the Red Lion’s now have no chance of winning a medal and the best they can hope for is 5th place.
