"We had hoped the new king would see the joke"

The dating website VictoriaMilan.be has halted its advertising campaign that made use of a photograph of Belgium's Kings Filip and Albert. The company was responding to a message from the Royal Palace insisting that the website did not have the authorisation to use pictures of the Belgian royals for commercial purposes.

VictoriaMilan.be is a dating website targeted at people who are already married but are eager to have an affair. The website decided to use a picture of King Albert following years of speculation that he has a child out of wedlock.

In the photo King Albert is seen whispering to King Filip: ""Good counsel, my son, always be discrete."

The snapshot was taken during King Filip's swearing in ceremony and was highly similar to the picture featured here.

In a statement the website says: "Belgians are famed for their humour. We had hoped that the new king could see the joke. It's a great shame that this is not the case. Our campaign in no way intended to insult members of the royal family."

"Happily we also got tons of positive reactions to the campaign. This shows how our members trust our sense of fun and the discrete character of our platform."

Sigurd Vedal, the website's Norwegian boss, says new campaigns will be launched later in the year.
