Filip Dewinter dons combat uniform

In Antwerp the authorities decided that all the official election hoardings needed to be filled before the boards were erected outside polling stations. The aim is to prevent activists from sticking posters over other candidates. In Antwerp far right supremo Filip Dewinter joined his supporters in an unusual outfit.

In Antwerp the authorities hope to bring some order to the election campaign. Each party is allowed to stick posters on a board of their own but often overly eager activists rip off rivals' posters and replace them with their own. This is why in Antwerp the parties all got an opportunity to stick their bills before the posters were covered with wire mesh and taken to schools and other public places that will serve as polling stations.

The far right Flemish lawmaker Filip Dewinter joined activists of his Vlaams Belang party to lend a hand in sticking posters. He turned up in a uniform displaying the insignia of a Croatian militia from the Yugoslav war. Mr Dewinter even posted a photograph on the micro-blogging website Twitter.
