Arrow of Brabant for Philippe Gilbert

Belgium's Philippe Gilbert has won the Arrow of Brabant cycling race. Gilbert finished ahead of Michael Matthews of Australia and Tony Gallopin of France.

For Philippe Gilbert this is his first win of the current cycling season. It is only the second time that he wins this race. The rider won the Arrow of Brabant in 2011 for a first time.

Gilbert's victory at Overijse, where he sprinted to victory at the head of a large pack, shows the rider is in top form and ready to face the challenge of forthcoming races in which climbing steep inclines features as the main obstacle.

"This gives me a lot of confidence for what is ahead" Gilbert told newsmen after the race.
