Youths detained after attack on American tourist
Two sixteen-year-old boys have been detained after a 19-year-old American tourist was attacked at the station in the East Flemish town of Aalter. The tourist was stranded at the station and forced to spend the night there when he was attacked by the two youths.
The American was first approached by the youths who asked him for some change. The tourist gave them two euro and they went away.
However, they returned a little later this time armed with a knife. They forced their victim to buy them two tickets to Antwerp.
At the ticket machine they stole the American’s wallet and ran off. The police were able to detain the muggers a couple of hours later. Both youths have previously been in trouble with the law.
