Top-two clash ends goalless

Despite plenty of chances at both ends, Monday afternoon’s match between second-placed Club Brugge and the league-leaders Standard de Liège ended in a goalless draw in at Bruges’ Jan Breydel Stadium. The home side went on the offensive early on pushing Standard back. De Sutter headed over and the Standard keeper Kawashima had trouble with Meuniers’ overhead kick.

Standard was nowhere to be, but nevertheless deserved a penalty when Simons tripped Carcela inside the box. However, the referee waved play on. After about 25 minutes of the game Standard came more into the game.

Club Brugge pushed forward just before half time. A series of corners produced chances for Meunier, Engels, Odjidja and De Sutter. At the other end Ezekiel headed just wide for Standard. The first half ended goalless.

Club Brugge started the second half on the attack. However, they were unable to score. Standard looked dangerous on the counter. Mpoku’s free kick went just wide for the visitors.
Club Brugge brought in Vazquez and Castillo, but Standard were able to stand their ground and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
